and secrets for a slim energetic body!

Country Life B-Vitamin ComplexI know.  For years, I thought I did not need to take supplements. I thought, well I eat a super healthy diet rich in greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, etc.. I am all set!  Wow was I wrong!  After some very specific blood work, it became crystal clear I was deficient in key nutrients.  A big one for me was Vitamin D.  Oh was I low!  So low I even got lectured by my doc!  ”See? You do need to supplement.  What do you think about a level of 22/dcl now?” He said to me while shaking his finger at me.  Well, that is just too low and as far as I’m concerned a breeding ground for disease…So, I gulped and told him he was right – I have to stop being in denial.

I am sharing this story with you to let you know, no matter how healthy you think you eat, you need to supplement.

In a perfect world, no one would need supplements. But given the stress of our modern life, the poor quality of our food supply, and the high load of toxins on our brains and bodies, most of us need a basic daily supply of the raw materials for all our enzymes and biochemistry to run as designed.

Consider this quote from functional medicine doctor, Dr. Mark Hyman: “The foods you eat no longer contain the nutrient levels you require for optimal health for many reasons. Crops are raised in soil where nutrients have been depleted. Plants are treated with pesticides and other chemicals so they no longer have to fight to live, which further diminishes their nutrient levels and their phytonutrient content (not to mention the toxic exposure you receive from such chemicals). Animals are cooped up in pens or giant feedlots instead of roaming free eating the nutrient-rich wild grains and grasses they once consumed. Since cow’s stomachs are adapted to grass instead of corn, they must take antibiotics to prevent them from exploding.

Do You Need The Basic Supplements? Take This Quiz.

If you answer yes to any of these questions (and these are just a few common symptoms) you may have a nutritional deficiency that should be investigated.

  • Is your skin or hair dry?
  • Do you have muscle cramps?
  • Do you get frequent colds?
  • Are you depressed?
  • Are you constipated?

Here’s a good place to start:

  • A good multivitamin that includes vitamins A, C, D, and E, as well as all the B vitamins, vitamin K, minerals, and other key nutrients.
  • An omega-3 fat supplement, either plant-based or sourced from fish.
  • A magnesium supplement
  • An additional Vitamin D supplement (80-90% of Americans are Vitamin D defficient)

Take minerals before bedtime.  Magnesium, in particular, helps muscles relax and can promote more restful sleep as well as regularity.  Because more Americans are deficient in minerals than vitamins, it’s smart to boost your mineral intake.  Plus, the average multivitamin can’t fir in adequate amounts of bulky minerals.
Time your multivitamin well.  Multivitamins can be energizing – especially if you’re taking a stress relief formula that’s high in B vitamins – so they’re best taken with food earlier in the day.
Take your fish oil or your omega-3 oil supplement with your largest meal of the day.  You have to take it with some fat, otherwise you will not absorb it.  Perhaps a good meal to have your fish oil is at dinner, because that’s where we tend to eat the most fat. Also, when the ‘burping’ of the fish oil begins, you’ll probably be sleeping and won’t taste it :))
